Women's abuse is increasing day by day. To reduce this in coming future we all can try. We should give a children education discipline, love, brotherhood importance and more than that, children should know the condition of the family. Allow them to talk and even you should spend time in talking to them. Tell moral stories, stories related to your religion. Your attachment with your kids will stop them from going in wrong paths. Whenever they face any trouble they will first share it with you. Never allow kids to stay alone with gadgets. Not only for girls, but even bys must be educated with good touch and bad touch.

I am going to talk about evacuation. We have protested to stop evacuation from Nerkundram and omshakthi nagar. When we spoke to them in the meeting they said, they will not go to the places which are allocated by Govt. because the school facility, koyambedu market facility and job opportunity are in these places. But Govt was firm in evacuating them. So the residents told they can move to Kudapakkam. So we 25members went and met collector Sundaravalli and gave petition. But the Govt allotted Padappai area. Again we 60 members conducted meetings and met collector and gave 2nd petition. Immediate next day collector called and told us that they have been allotted Kudapakkam area.

In urimai kural platform we are hearing about alcoholism. Today I am going to share about a woman who was taking care and running alcoholic rehabilitation centre. She is none other than Shanthi Ranganathan. She is the reason for treating millions of alcoholic people. Let us know more about her. Shanthi Ranganathan was born in a rich Brahmin family. Because of her husband's drinking habit, she lost her husband at the age of 30. She thought that no other should face such situation. She researched about it and went to America and studied in Social Education Center and studied about alcoholism. In the year 1980, she started TTK hospital in Adayar. She conducted free camps in villages and gave awareness about it. She is doing Rehabilitation, Research, Awareness etc. From last 35 years, she is working in this field. Women are the one who gets affected by men's drinking habit. While the husbands get treatment the wives will be counselled and trained in being self-empowered. 1982 she was awarded with Padmashree and she has also received other awards too.

Today on account of women's day yesterday we had the largest protest in Tiruvallur near railway station. More than 300 members participated in this protest. I would like to thank all dear friends and incharges. Many heads and leaders of union participated in this protest. They gave a beautiful speech. And appreciated all the participants for joining the protest by leaving their one day work. This protest is not going to stop here. Among 10 demands, to get at least 3 demands fulfilled we need to fight and protest continuously. The main think which they all said is, we need to protest continuously. We have decided to protest in Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Salem, Vellore districts.

On coming Monday March 5th we are having the largest protest in Tiruvallur. We are protesting to put forth our demands. Our demands are, • The Labour Welfare Board should act properly. For that, in Government’s budget 5% fund should be reserved! • The livelihood program should be properly brought under the labor department! • The subsidy amounts of labor welfare should also be raised! • Free bus passes should be given to women workers immediately! • The fixed minimum wages should be given to garment workers without any deductions! • Young widows should be given an amount of Rs.3500 every month! • 100 days work(NREGA) should be properly given to village women! • As promised by the Government all TASMAC shops must be closed immediately! • According to the increased cost of living, domestic helpers must be given housing facility, job security and ILO (189) act must be implemented! • The policy of shifting to the Chennai suburbs should be stopped, the women who have already been shifted they must be given stable employment(fixed placement), for education up to 1 year monthly Rs.5000 must be given! We all should participate in this protest without fail. Let us voice together for our rights.

On March 5th we are going to have a protest on 10 demands. In those 10 demands, one of the demand is to give a pension of Rs.3500 to young widows. The reason to demand Rs.3500 is, it is difficult to bear expenses of children's education, house rent and day to day expenses with one salary. So we feel it will be good if they get Rs.3500. Not only this, they should also get permanent employment. Because at the age of 30 they lose husband, what will they do without any income? For a woman to go as a domestic helper and to bare her children's education is really difficult. So give her a pension 0f rs. 3500 or give her permanent employment.

When MArch month comes, the first thing to come in our mind is "International women's day". Let us know from when women's day is celebrated and why is this celebrated. In 18th century. i.e 1857 even in developed countries like America, women were at home taking care of children and doing household works. It is believed that only men should go to work. Many of the women did not get the primary education too. For the first time, women were allowed to work in factories, coal mines and companies. Even during that time, even if women worked equal to men they were paid less. In 1857 March 8th all women joined together and protested. But they didnt get any recognition. They continued to protest and during 1910 conference on women's rights was conducted. Many participated from different countries. Not only that the protest happened in 1920, in Russia's St.peters city a women name Alexandra Serendra insisted to celebrate International women's day on March 8th. In 1975 it was officially declared as International women's day. In many countries its a holiday. With so much of effort we have got this day as Women's day. Can we all celebrate this day happily?
