Dr. Mutthulakshmi reddy is a person who studied during the days when it was considered that studies are only for boys. She is the 1st girl to joined in Puthukottai medical college. In 1912 she graduated with medical degree. She voiced out for equal rights for women. She went to London to study about Cancer and started a hospital for cancer patients.

Amrutha: Today is death anniversary of Mahathma Gandhi Kani: Very good. There is one more specialty of today's date. do you know that? Amrutha: No Maa, I dont know Kani: Today is world leprosy eradication day. Amrutha: Whta is leprosy maa? Kani: Have you seen old people traveling in train with leprosy? Amrutha: Yes maa. I feel pity for them. Why only old people get leprosy maa? Kani: Its not that only old people get leprosy. Our body has 90% power to fight with diseases. When the power to fight with disease goes down, we get leprosy. Amrutha: How to find this maa? Kani: If any of your skin part has skin sores and it has lost sensation, immediately you should consult the doctor. If we avoid it it slowly enters our nervous and it can make us disable also. Amrutha: Maa, today there was a health check-up camp in sister's school. Kani: That's a great news. From tomorrow till february 13th government has arranged for free health checkup camps. It is called as "search". Anybody can go personally and make use of the facility.
Urimai kural gave the interest to women to participate in gram sabha. Jamuna sangeetha sivasankari gave us information about Morai, Pudhur gram sabhas information. Pushparani and Dhanalakshmi also gave information and decisions taken in kanjipuram village gram sabhas. Coming May 1st we have another gram sabha and more number of women should participate in that too
Today24th January is celebrated as "National Girl child's day". In today's world girls are equally participating in all sectors like education, sport, politics etc. The purpose of celebrating this day is, giving equal importance to girl child in their health, freedom, safety, abolishing the discrimination between boys and girls. For all today's problems the main reason is not being aware of our culture. We should educate our kids in a proper way. Children should not be feel lonely, we should give a healthy atmosphere at home. Nowadays kids spend most of their time in internet, we should never allow for that. Girls should take good care of their health. Now mentality of people are changing towards girl child. We should be happy for that.
As we all are aware that Tamil nadu government has doubled the bus fare. Bus fares are so high that I feel nobody can go to work. Whatever salary we are getting, we have to spend on bus fare, how can we manage other things like, house rent, kids education, household expenses, medical expenses, food? I think we need to go back to olden days and start using bullock cart as mode of transport. In many districts college students are protesting. doubling bus fare in a single night is unusual. I don't know who gives such ideas to government. To Tamilnadu govt, we women of Tamilnadu give you an idea of increasing price for liquors. At least with that many people will stop drinking it and many families will be happy.
Yesterday i.e 22nd January 2018 evening we had a meeting in Ambattur office. This meeting was about Urimai Kural. The people who were present are - Orlanda, Palanibharathi, Sivanesan from Urimai kural, office administrators. Santhanamari, sumathi, saraswati, sangeetha, kani, incharges - subhadra, uma vijayalakshmi, ranganayaki, lata, indira, prema. The discussion was about programmes broacasted in Urimai kural. We have also given some suggestions. We had a very good discussion.
Information provided by GAFWU PTS staff Kani: Today I am going to share about child sexual harassment. Central government has created a group in 13 states to identify the rate of child sexual harassment. The findings says, almost 70 districts 5% of kids are victims of sexual harassment. For every single minute on an average, 5 kids are sexually harassed. Among them 41% kids are harassed by either their family members or family friends. Delhi, Bihar, UP, Orissa, Hariyana states are kids are living in very bad condition. They are either physical or emotionally being tortured. They are losing their happiness. Only when kids play outside they grow healthy inside and outside.
Thirukulakundram: Yesterday on the occasion of Pongal, free sarees were distributed by Rainbows Foundation to poor and widows in thirukulakundram. The founder Mr. Selvakumar headed the event. Perativakkam: From last 6months the water pump motor is not working and the water is flowing to the nearby agricultural land. By seeing drinking water in getting wasted, the villagers complained the concerned authorities but there is no use of it. Thiruvallur: Health Center is which is built near pudhumaavarangai is not used from last 15years. The health center and nurses residential building is surrounded by wild and thorny plants. The villagers are going to Kadamatthur or perampakkam for medical needs. Periyapalayam: Tahsildar Lata collected the petitions from the general public during "AMMA THITTA MUGAAM". They received 19 petitions, including financial aid for elderly citizens, adding names in ration card etc. In which 3 petitions were granted instantly, 5 petitions were postponed and 11 petitions were sent for investigation.
I am Santhanamaari. Last day I have visited Koodapakkam. Latest update about the Evicted people - There is no job opportunity in Koorapakkam and many have taken rented houses in Maduravoil for the sake of their children's education. Travel time from Koorapakkam is 3 hours daily. So they are not able to concentrate on their kids. Initially Government was keen on evicting us so we couldn't say anything but now they cannot live in that house. But when santhanamari told them that they can approach collector, they changed their statements. They were saying our leader is taking good care. Their statements keeps changing. I told them we can talk to Sujatha Madam but they are hesitant to talk to Sujatha madam also.
