In urimai kural platform we are hearing about alcoholism. Today I am going to share about a woman who was taking care and running alcoholic rehabilitation centre. She is none other than Shanthi Ranganathan. She is the reason for treating millions of alcoholic people. Let us know more about her. Shanthi Ranganathan was born in a rich Brahmin family. Because of her husband's drinking habit, she lost her husband at the age of 30. She thought that no other should face such situation. She researched about it and went to America and studied in Social Education Center and studied about alcoholism. In the year 1980, she started TTK hospital in Adayar. She conducted free camps in villages and gave awareness about it. She is doing Rehabilitation, Research, Awareness etc. From last 35 years, she is working in this field. Women are the one who gets affected by men's drinking habit. While the husbands get treatment the wives will be counselled and trained in being self-empowered. 1982 she was awarded with Padmashree and she has also received other awards too.
