A worker works in a company or mill for 2 - 3 years or 5 years and he comes out of the company. After coming out they dont have an alternative job, it can be in any type of work, like textile or leather etc. After coming out of the work they are called as the survivor. It just means a former worker. So survivor means ex-worker or former worker.
