I am Kani from PTS. Today i heard about Wild fairy Wangari Maathai. She is the first women to get Noble prize, first to get Doctorate, 1st women professor. She has got many awards. I am really happy to know about this unknown women achiever. His pronunciation was really good. The number of trees has decreased drastically. Nowadays plants are been given in marriages. Its a good thing. But everyone should take care of it. Now its summer season, and we have water scarcity. So reduce water usage. Even in gram sabha meeting, they insisted on using less water. Hope you remember. Kids and plants both are same, If we grow it properly our next generation will be healthy.
Wild fairy Wangari Maathai. East Africa's Kenya became Independent Country after getting freedom from Englishmen in 1964. During those days, natural resources in Kenya was in deteriorating state. Education was not popular among people. The economy was dying. Women were longing for their freedom. Time was flying silently. During 1970s a start for change was sprouting. Without any noise, an organization started to grow. To improve Natural resource, every house was given a plant. Everyone who were taking care of their plants properly and making it as a big tree was Rewarded with money and gave awards too. All women and children started participating in this actively. To get that reward money even men started to participate in this activity. Within few years Kenya was turning Green. Kenyan women started getting awareness on the importance of trees for walking on road and for using it as firewood. As the income stated growing, authority started reaching women's hands. The Kenya Govt easily understood that this organization is not only for restoring Natural Resources. This organisation joined everyone in Environmental protection, economical growth, peaceful life. No political parties will like the unity among the people in all types of situation. Even Kenya Govt was the same. They have freed repression. But the Govt was unable to stop women and children uniting to restore the environment. Wangari Maathai undertook the Green belt movement. Crossing all the hurdles like the crisis of the state, arrest, Imprisonment, family issues. Within 30 years more than 3 crore trees were planted and she becomes a wild fairy among the heart of millions of people. She was crowned with all kinds of awards. During the times when education for girls was nowhere, Wangari Maathai became the first women to get a Doctorate degree. Her research was about Body. She was the first women Professor to work in Nairobi University. She is the first women to get Noble prize in Africa. She was awarded Noble prize in 2004 for Environmental growth and Protection. She was given 49 International awards from Across the world and recognized her work.
Kalpana Chawla will grab the first place if we talk about Indian Achiever women. She a role model for many women. Travelling to space is not an easy joke. Having knowledge about Engineering not sufficient for this. Physical strength, courage is also necessary. Kalpana Chawla is the woman who owns all these and a first proud woman to travel to Space. She was born on March 17, 1962 in Haryana's Karnal as the daughter of Banaraslal Chawla and Sanyogita Devi. Sh has 2 sisters namely, Sunita and Deepa. She also has a brother named Sanjay. She started her schooling in Karnal's Govt school. During 1982 she joined engineering in Chandigad. During 1984 obtained a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas. She got her second Masters in 1986 and a PhD in aerospace engineering in 1988. In the same year, she joined NASA as Vice President. During 1995 she joined NASA Astronaut Corps. Within 2 years she got eligibility to join Space Shuttle Columbia. In 1997's travel she was in space for 372 hours and successfully she came back to earth. With this she became the 1st Indian woman to go to Space. After the 1st successful trip, with 5 years she prepared for her 2nd trip. The travel was supposed to be done during 2000 and 2002, but due to technical issues, it was delayed. On January 16th 2003, STS -107 was sent to Space for research. Including Kalpana Chawla, 7 others were travelling with her. They were returning back after 16 days of research. But they all lost their lives in Space Shuttle disaster. Kalpana Chawla is a person who proved her dreams by starting her schooling in a simple school.
I am Sarathy. I heard the program about Velunachiyar. Its really nice to hear such stories. I really appreciate it. Many people doesn't know these stories. I was really happy immediately after hearing this. I am really happy and hearing these stories we know that women of those days were really brave. Please say such stories. Let everyone know that many brave women have sacrificed their lives for the country.
Kuyili... She burnt herself for the nation. A freedom fighter from Tamilnadu who is always remembered. British Govt Shot Sivaganagai's King Mutthuvaduganathar. So his wife Velunachiyar was forced to lead Underground life for 8 years. At that there were several people who lived along with her. Kuyili was also one among them. Kuyili killed Vetrivel who was a secret messenger of Britishers. y knowing this Velunachiyar made Kuyili as her bodyguard. More than eing a bodyguard, the acts f Kuyili was something which was remarkable during the freedom fight. During 1780 Velunachiyar was fighting and getting back the lost lands. That was the time when Manamadurai, Tirupur, Tirupuvanam, Kalayarkovil was undertaken. Only Sivagangai was left in Englishmen's hand. With the help of Hiderali and Marudupandi's they planned to fight to get Sivagangai. Entire SIvagangai was covered with Englishmen. The entire weapons of these Englishmen was in Sivagangai. No one was allowed to enter Sivagangai Palace. But during Vijayadashami, women were allowed to enter Rajarajeswari temple which was at the entrance of the palace. As planned Velunachiyar's women army entered the Palace in disguise. All of a sudden a women's cry was heard from the place where explosive weapons were kept. All the explosives were burning. Velunachiyar couldn't understand what was happening. When there was no time to think, Velunachiyar's women army attacked Britishers. Marudhupandi's army also joined them. Since all the weapons were burnt, the Britisher ran away from that place. Velunachiya occupied Sivagangai Palace. Immediately she went to see the place of weapons. Kuyili was lying dead completely burnt. Velunachiyar and Marudupandi was shocked to see this. Only then they realised that Kuyili poured oil on her body and burnt herself and jumped into the tank of weapons.
Narrator: This is an incident which is shared by Scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Which happened during his childhood days. And this is an incident which we will should hold by and follow. One fine night when i was a child, my mom Ashiamma was cooking. She was just back from work. Only if she goes out for work, we were able to manage our financial needs. After coming back from work, my mom was preparing rotis for dinner. She served the rotis to dad. I saw it. That roti was burnt. But dad was not bothered about it. He started eating while talking to me. He asked me how the school that day. I gave some answer. Because my full concentration was on that roti. Dad was about to finish that roti and mum observed that the roti was burnt. She apologised to dad. Dad continued eating that burnt roti and said, I like such rotis. He said this and finished eating and got up. I knew it very well, how can he like such roti!! I was thinking, why dad ate this. I couldnt resist. Before sleeping i went to dad and asked dad, do you really like burnt roti? My dad was quiet for some time without answering my question. Then he called me near to him and hugged me and said, your mom goes to work and makes food for us daily. She will be tired. I dont like burnt roti but i like your mum. My dad Jainulabiddin made me understand this. Abdul, a burnt roti wont hurt anyone, but harsh words hurt them. Our beloved Kalam shared this with Dinakaram newspaper. He said, i am not a great person like my dad. But i am tried for that. All great love songs will start from small understandings. Mother, daughter or sister, each and every woman who is dedicating themselves for the family are achiever women. Let us understand our women at our home and treat them respectfully.
Narrator: Ida Scudder, She was a young American girl. She was just 14 years at that time. Those days were days when girls were not sent to school in India. Her parents came to Vellore to do medical service. She accompanied them during her holidays. Within 2 months her mother goes back to America. She stayed at Vellore with her father. One fine midnight someone was knocking the doors. The one who was knocking the doors was a Hindu friend. Father opened the doors. His eyes were searching for Doctor madam. Sir.. Sir... My wife is suffering from labor pain. Where is doctor madam? Ida's father says, sir, she went back to America. Even i am a doctor, can I come? The person denies it. No sir, in our community, women take care of woman's delivery. This is our regulation. We cannot violate it. He says this while wiping his tears and leaves the place. That woman died that day. And her body was taken for the procession. Young Ida was shocked to see this procession. She cries out without her knowledge. OMG!!! Even such things happen??!!! Two days passed. Another midnight just like the previous one. Now a Muslim person comes. Even he searches for Doctor madam. Her father gives the same answer and he leaves the place with tears. Next day another procession!! The same thing happens another time. By seeing the deaths of women, young Ida Scudder cries out aloud. What kind of country is this??!! They wont send girls to schools but women should take care of woman's delivery. Is it possible??!! Why these deaths and why these murders?? These questions made her zealous. She took the decision to become a doctor. I will come to India and fight in this country for a girl's education. She went back, she did what she said. She became a doctor. As decided she came back to India. Did the delivery for woman. As a single person, she fought and gave awareness for women. Slowly as she started getting the victory, many doctors started joining her. The spark gave by Ida Scudder, started spreading around and a Medical college was started. The first Medical college for women. Only women were allowed in this college. The college has completed its 100th year. A college which saved millions of people. Even now it is called as one of the best colleges. It is called as CMC in Vellore. Vellore Christian Missionary College and hospital. Yes!!! Many of the achievements takes place during childhood. Only an extraordinary person can chase away blind beliefs. Fighting back by seeing injustice is different and posting memes and hiding is different. Ida Scudder is still living in our heart by achieving what she decided.
