I am Sumangal Mondal from Behala, Kolkata. I am associated with the theatre group Ruby Theatres, Odisha, and I am visually impaired. So, I want to share something with you all. Nowadays, you know that people are selected for jobs through written exams and tests. But in earlier times, recruitment was done through interviews. This happened quite some time ago. So this can be considered either a joke or an incident, because I had heard about such a case a long time ago, where someone actually got a job in this way. In one place, 30 job candidates were called for an interview, and there were two interviewers on the panel. The interview was a kind of oral test. What was the question? On the table, there was a glass of water, and it was covered with a poster placed over it. When each candidate entered, the first person went in and said, “Sir, may I come in?” Then he was asked: “There is a glass of water here. But without touching or removing the poster, you have to drink the water. This is your interview task.” One by one, 19 candidates tried, but none of them could do it. Why? Because, as I said, it was either a joke or a real incident. Anyway, the last candidate entered. As soon as he came to the table, he said, “Sir, is there water in this glass? Shall I drink it?” They said, “No. How will you drink it from here?” But he insisted, “No, there is water in the glass. If I want to drink it, then I will have to remove the poster. But I cannot remove it with my own hands. Without removing the poster, I have to drink the water.” Then he said, “Sir, there is no water in it. I am 100% sure that there is no water in it.” No matter how much they insisted, he kept repeating, “There is no water.” Finally, when he firmly said again, “There is no water at all, not even a drop,” the interviewers got excited and immediately removed the cover. And right away, he drank the water from the glass. So what happened? He didn’t even have to remove the poster. In this way, he got the job. This is an old incident that I shared.
