One more important thing was he was undereducated and through his experience, he came to top executive position. He didn't work on his education. This was the main fear factor for him. He was 43 at that time, With his basic education what work will he get, how can he pay his EMI, how can he send his daughters to school and college. He was scared of all these things. But after quitting his drinking habit he joined a less paying job but he succeeded in that and now he is earning 1 lakh monthly and he is nearing his retirement age. Both his daughters are married. So definitely by quitting drinking habit, it will do good for you. There were people in his life who gave marriage invitation and said even by mistake dont come for marriage. But now they are taking his help and advice. When you attend such people in meetings, you will be motivated.
You must be thinking that, in this 15 years I have seen so much of cases. And what is the success rate and how many was failure. This thinking is natural because if we have an alcohol addict in our home we will be definitely curious to know whether this will be useful for us or not. I have been working here from last 15 years and if i have to tell about my first patient, starting from May 3rd 2003 to till now he is clean and without any bad habit and still he is in touch with us. There are many other cases where a person went directly to wine shop after the consultation. But after relapse when they come back to us there are more chances of positive changes. One of my frinend's husband stopped drinking after some days. When again he started drinking he got breathing problem and now in a condition to die. But even now he is not stopping to drink alcohol. We spoke to him many times but even then he is not listening to us. Again he is drinking, because of this the whole family is getting affected and losing their peace. He is not listening to us and not coming to any hospitals. Please tell us what to do.
second thing is getting counselling help. There are many other problems in our life. Only alcoholism is not a problem. Many problems come along with alcoholism problem. Like economical problem due to alcoholism, problem between relations, problems with children, legal problems. There are many problems like this. So stopping alcoholism is not the only solutions. For eg. you have loans due to his alcohol problem. If he stops drinking alcohol, will the loan problem be solved? To pay that loan what all he should do and what he shouldn't do. With the help of counsellor, we can prioritise and see which loan can be paid first. For such things, conselling support is needed for 2 years. Thirdly AA fellowship is a must. AA relation is Alcoholics anonymous fellowship. The members of AA fellowship are the ones who stopped drinking from many years. This is a self help group. In chennai almost 6 to 7 meetings are happening on daily basis. This was started in 1935 and it is now worldwide. When you attend the meetings and listen to them you will get confidence that even you can quit drinking. To control alcoholism all these 3 things are must for 3 years. Meeting support is advisable for lifetime. Even relapse is considered as recovery because it always teaches them a lesson.

Is it a right decision to allow them to drink at home? Definitely not! Because drinking habit increases day by day. Drinking habit can be devided in to 3 ways. 1- increasing Quantity, 2- They maintain particular quantity. 3- quantity can be reduced. Many time we tend to misunderstand it. We may think that earlier he was drinking entire bottle but now he has reduced it so maybe he is going to stop it. But in reality, it shows that the problem is in its peak. Because their liver is affected and because of this they cannot drink more than that. What can a wife do? Proper medication and counseling is compulsory.
Alcoholism affects our entire nervous system. In a scientific way, it is called as depressant. Alcohol is nothing but it is something which can reduce the effectiveness of our nervous system. There are many other Addictives like cigarette which makes nervous system to work rapidly. But drinking alcohol reduces the effectiveness of our nervous system. When we stop drinking alcohol it may cause certain side effects but with proper medical help we can avoid it. When a person is trying to stop drinking alcohol, he may face problems like, sleeplessness, lack of appetite, shivering, and even that person may get fits after 72hrs of coming out drinking habit. With proper medical assistance, it can be treated. It is possible to come out of alcohol addiction. When an alcoholic addict is there in the family, it affects entire family. Especially wife will be the victim. They may be hit by husband, wife has to take over the role of husband in the family, she has to work inside the house and outside the work too. many wives give permission to drink at home just to avoid social embarrassing situations.
