I am Sanhthanmari from PTS. Last week we went to Cambodia for a meeting. Many organizations from different countries were present. Every organization spoke and put forth their views and comments. The meeting was very nice. Even we participated and Sujatha madam explained the things we have done. She told about minimum wage and how we work and also explained about things we do among domestic helpers. Everyone was really happy. I thought only in our country we are facing problem like minimum wage and problems faced by domestic helpers. But in all the countries these problems exist. In Srilanka, there are many issues like this. We all explained and our shared our ideas among ourselves. Attending this meeting was an honor for me. because they asked many questions. Me and Sujatha madam enjoyed the trip.
I am Kani from PTS Ambattur. Sumathi shared a good news in Vetripadigal. As told by her, please do not work for less than Rs.39 for an hour of work. And legally its wrong. It is our duty to follow GOs. SO do tell us by pressing 3 whether are you getting Rs.39 for an hour work and did you get your diwali bonus.
I am Sumathi. There is good news for domestic helpers. As a result of our fight Govt has passed a GO for domestic helpers for the first time in the history of India. In this GO they have mentioned that Rs.39 must be given for an hour work. This is the biggest victory for all domestic helpers. The GO number is 722D2018. They have joined domestic helpers under minimum wage act on 2011. After 7 years we have got the GO. We have ways to increase this wage amount under the minimum wage act. Secondly, no owners should give less than Rs.39 to any workers. If they are giving legal actions can be taken. Now diwali is nearing so we should get 1-month salary as bonus. We should not accept Rs.100 and a saree as bonus. we should get 1-month salary as bonus. So we all should make use of GO in a proper way. We should not accept less Rs.39 from our owners. So know this law and its in our hands to enforce the law. Happy diwali to all.

Sumathi: Hello everyone we have Padma with us today in our Ambattur PTS office. She is incharge of Sozhainagar branch. Hello Sis. Padma: Hello. S: When did you join the union? P: In the year 2002. S: What were you working as? P: I was working as domestic helper. S: In the year 2002 you joined as a member. But now you are grown and became an Incharge from a branch. Totally how many members are there in your branch? P: 150 members are there in our branch. S: Ok.. You are an in charge in Solianagar. What all are your responsibilities? P: I guide and help them in getting pension and education allowances. I also take people for meetings wherever it is. S: Other than union work do you do other community works? P: Yes i do. S: Please mention any 2 such types of works. P: I speak about common issues. And water problems faced by public, Many times I school students smokingI go and question them. S: That's really great sis. Its been 16 years that you are in union. What all did you learn here? P: I learnt many things. I talk with confidence while doing domestic work. I also learned how we should behave. S: When you joined union, you were a young widow. How did you cross this lng journey and got the high position? P: Initially I was afraid and used to be at home. My mother and brother never allowed me outside. After joining union i started attending meetings and started to talk. I understood that we should be brave and we should start talking. After joining PTS i learned many things. S: Thats really great sis. Nowadays we can see many young widows. After the death of their husbands they start losing hope in their life. What do you want to suggest to such widows? P: I suggest everyone to be like me. I was strong and took care of my kids by doing domestic help. S i suggest everyone to be like me. S: So you like to tell them to be brave and not to go in a wrong way and work hard. Am I right? P: Yes. S: Thank you so much.
