Umesh Ujagar from Uperghat, Nawadih Block of Bokaro district called up to share his response on the questions asked by the Bangalore based journal, "The Alternative". He informs that very near to his place of residence, Uperghat, lies the factory, Bokaro thermal that disposes off its ashes into the river. He further informs that thousands of people use this polluted water for their daily chores because water is a necessity and they have no choice but to use the polluted water. He shares that although a lot of people and political leaders have campaigned against the polluting of Konar river where the ashes from the plant are dumped. He goes on to explain the paradox where on one hand the governing parties promise clean water to the people but on the other hand, people are compelled to use polluted water. Talking about the irony, he says that so to say there are many industries in Jharkhand, but at the same time a large number of young and educated people are unemployed.
