Ramgarh: Dr. Ashish from Patratu Block of Ramgarh called up on Jharkhand Mobile Radio to share his opinion about water conservation and water pollution as asked by the Bangalore based journal, “The Alternative”. He stated that that the efforts to conserve water in Jharkhand under the MGNREGA scheme are in full force. Under the scheme ponds, wells, check dams etc. are being built. He further says that there are many big dams in different districts of Jharkhand where water is collected that fulfils the water related needs of the people residing in that area. Talking about the state of water pollution in Jharkhand, he complains that the industries situated in the state discharge industrial waste openly in the water bodies such as lakes, ponds and rivers without treating them properly that leads to water pollution. He further says that discharging industrial effluents into water without treating them properly also gives rise to a lot of water borne diseases such as diarrhoea, plague, Kala Azar. Therefore, he requests the Government to look into the matter and punish the industries strictly who don’t follow the regulations.
