Gram sabha is nothing but kind of parliament setup in every panchayath. Dhanalakshmi: OMG!! Seriously!!! Parliament??!! where all the ministers sit and talk about people’s problem. Is it so?? Silvanus: Exactly!!! In the same way, in gram sabha meeting everybody sits and decides about what all can be done for their villages. Dhanalakshmi: Oh really???!!! Silvanus: Oh Yes dear!! Gram sabha is the back bone for the growth of each and every village. But many people are not aware of importance of gram sabha. Dhanalakshmi: Ok.. What will we get by knowing its importance? Silvanus: Oh come on.. let me give you an example. If a gram sabha decides to shut down the liquor shops in their village, nobody can start or continue liquor shops in that village. Court has ordered to give importance to the decisions taken in gram sabha. Now you think.. If each and every gram sabhas decides to shut down the liquor shops in their area, we can make India a liquor free country. Dhanalakshmi: Brother Its really exciting!! It happens only 4 times in a year. i.e January 26th, May 1st, August 15th and on October 2nd. Gram sabha meetings will be conducted on these dates.
