Geeta’s aunt received a call from an international number. A woman on the other end, speaking in a very panicked voice, claimed that one of Geeta’s close relatives had met with an accident in Dubai and urgently needed money for medical treatment. Because the fraudster spoke very confidently, Geeta’s aunt believed the story and, out of fear, sent ₹10,000 to that number via GP (GPay). After sending the money, when she tried to contact them again, the fraudster did not answer the call. It was then that they realized it was a scam.
