When we all were stuck in flood, PTS helped us. We know very well about union. I heard Santhanamari's talk in UK on how PTS worked for garment workers. PTS is a pillar of support for all of us. On January 26th Garment general body meeting is held in Thirukulakundram. So daily the work done by GAFWU is posted in Radio. She told how they fought and how workers cooperated. We go and attend one day protest and come back. But this protest was conducted for 6 months. I am hearing it for first time. Union in doing it regularly and helping workers. I am Vijaylakshmi from Eri scheme. Pushparani mam told how many kids are wearing old clothes. It was really sad to hear. In near by flats many people gave saree, salwar etc. I took it and gave it to mentally challenged people. Many times I have done it. After giving it I get a thank you letter to my house. When we do such good things we feel good. You too please give old things to people who are in need.
I am Malathi from Ambattur. Santhanamari mam has helped in getting welfare scheme. I have participated in protest and meeting. We knew about GAFWU but we didnt know much about it. Santhanamari mam fought for Unitex workers and helped in getting salary and settlement for 150 people. We filed the case and went to station. Workers started saying that they wasted their life for Unitex. They come by cycle. They have worked for 20 years and started crying. From last 1-1.5 years the company didnt give PF. We went to PF office and checked and came to know that they didnt pay 33 lakh. We complained and company was sealed saying the company will be opened only if they pay 33lakhs. Every night the company was shifting the machine to Chevvapet. 2 nights we stayed there because they were shifting machine. From November to April daily morning we took sign from workers and fought for them. Case was for 20 times we went every time and took 5 workers every time. Then the owner was arrested. We protested near company, Theynampet office, Chevvapet company, workers cooperated with us. 4 months we didnt leave them. Everyone supported each other. April month case was over. After so much of struggle the owner accepted to give salary without working and workers were given the settlement upto 1.5 lakhs. It was a great victory for us. We cant forget our victory. Same way SLAM company issue was handled. Even now the workers remember it. Yesterday Devaki from Mogappair told about this.
I am Santhanamari from PTS. This week we will be telling about the works done by GAFWU for the last 10 years. Unitex company in Ambattur Vavin closed without prior information. Every worker was working there from 5 to 20 years. Work was going well. All of a sudden they opened the company in Chevvapet and closed this company and cheated the workers. Workers were thinking sad about owner. Already one year back same problem has happened. But we didnt know about it. Later they closed the company and asked workers to come to Chevvapet. Workers cant go that far for work. Our incharge Pramila's friend who was working there told Pramila about it. She called and told us, we discussed and went there next morning. Watchman was there. Workers were sitting there but they were not allowed to sign in attendance. We spoke to them but they didnt agree to us. We filled case and Case was on. Everyday 7am we go there and get sign from workers. The workers were there till 5:50pm everyday. Owner said there is no work and you will not be given salary. If you keep listening to union, thing will not work out.

I am Shanthi. I am working as construction workers from the age of 10. Now i am 43 years old. My native is Mandavasi. I am working in Sathya nagar. Its been 9 years that i have joined this union. This union works for our betterment when compared to other union. My son has completed BA. My daughter has studied 12th. For this Pongal we have got Pongal gifts for construction workers. It would have been really good if all workers had got this. Many didnt get this. They are struggling with kids.
