Narrator: hello sir. Please tell about yourself to our listeners. Annadurai: My name is Annadurai and i am a social activist. I work at GAFWU under the leadership of Sujata modi and i also work for organised workers. From past 25 year we are working with different kinds of people. Noe students wrote their exams and got their results. We are guiding the nearby village students on what to do next? which course to pursue etc. Narrator: What kind of guidance are you giving to students. Annadurai: Both village based students and urban slum based students they dont know what to do after their studies. In which college to study and what to study. This is the fact. because the govt has brought many changes in education system. We tell the students about study related to agriculture, engineering, medical field related studies. We also tell them about the colleges which are near to their house and they can reach their by bus. For some courses you have to stay and study. We give them the guidance even on that too. We also tell them how to apply through counselling, apply online etc. N: One more doubt sir. Are you just guiding the students or you are helping them in joining the college? A: A student who was from Periyapalayam. He knows me very well because i was doing social work there. He contacted me. But he had very less marks. He got 221/600. But he wanted to study BCom. His mother is a cooley worker and has no income. His mother told me that please join him to the college which has less fees and he should join the stream which he wants to join. I called many colleges and spoke to them. Finally i spoke to one of the college which is near kelambakkam named Prof. Dhanapalan college. Told them that he is really poor and belongs to the backword caste. he is the first educated person in their family. But he has less mark and he wants to study BCom. He agrred to it. because he knows about my social works. When we went their he asked us to join 2nd shift. The total fees was only Rs.10000. The student and his parents were happy and agreed to it. His college timings were 1.45pm to 5pm so morning he will be free. I promised him to get a part time work. He and his parents were happy. Now i have found a job for him. N: Are you getting the books for the students? A: We are not buying it but i am just guiding them on how to get it. For backword and scheduled tribe people Govt is providing education allowance.
